If the carrier is only pulled out when it’s time for the car ride, then they will be frightened well before reaching the clinic.

  • Leave the carrier out. Toss treats and food in it. Try feeding meals in it.
  • Get your cat used to being carried in it, even room to room.
  • Move onto the car once she is comfortable. Slowly increase the driving distance from just down the driveway to getting a coffee. Each time, return home for a meal.
  • Try using a synthetic pheromone spray, such as Feliway.
When it’s time to come to the clinic, bring a towel to cover your carrier to decrease sights, sounds, and smells of other animals while in the clinic.
